“To inspire & teach millions of risk-takers to start and/or grow their own business & change the economic landscape of America. We do this by sharing proven tools and processes with startups.”
Barry R. McCann started 7 Secrets, LLC when he realized how difficult it was for businesses to understand customer needs and how to translate insights into competitive strategies. He later decided to focus even more on helping aspiring entrepreneurs with a grass-roots association called StartupMasters.
Throughout more than 18 years of executive-level leadership experience, Barry’s formal experience grew mostly from direct marketing and vertically integrated manufacturing businesses. These include First Marketing Company (now Progressive Impressions International), Alamo Rent a Car, G.Neil / Everglades Direct, PaperDirect, Current USA, Inc. and Taylor Corporation in general. Through all his roles, Barry gained a deep understanding of small, medium and large businesses, as well as consumer buyers.
His expertise includes strategic brand planning and execution; new business initiatives; marketing; product development/management; software and Web site development; Web-to-Print user interface design; digital printing; inventory optimization; domestic and international procurement; lean manufacturing; process design; project management; customer communications; sales and account management.
Barry has extensive leadership experience, both with direct and indirect teams, and is known for his ability to cut through dozens of influencing factors to discover root causes and success drivers.
Regarding his public speaking experience, Barry is an Advanced Communicator Silver and past president of Pikes Peak Toastmasters, the only club in the tri-state district to achieve the Toastmasters International President’s Distinguished Club Award twelve years in a row. He also recently advised a Toastmasters International Speech Contest finalist, one of only ten in the world to reach this pinnacle each year.
His education includes the prestigious Mercersburg Academy, Baylor University and a nine-month Performance Unlimited Master Workshop Series on Teambuilding, Leadership and Communication. He holds a Bachelors of Arts with a double major in Psychology and English Literature and a Masters of Arts in English Literature, with written thesis and oral examination.
What Others Say
“When I worked with Barry at First Marketing, I was most impressed by his approach to challenges. He was quick to assess a situation by considering the immediate and long-term impacts and then offer his strategic vision for how to best facilitate change. In the mid-90s, Barry challenged status quo and encouraged the company to explore the potential of this new-fangled technology called the Internet. He and a co-worker combined to define the foundation of the company’s foray into cyberspace, a significant task at the time because very few in leadership positions saw its potential. Barry’s intelligence and willingness to dive deep into the Internet phenomena was a catalyst for change in our corporate culture. Without question, Barry is one of the smartest people I’ve encountered in my 24 years in the marketing world.”
Jon Sumple, former Senior Vice President, First Marketing
“Barry is the type of leader that will add WOW and POW to your team and company now, and then sustain the same as time continues. In business one of the keys to success are having leaders that relish change, not to change, but when it is needed and in strategic processes to improve results and reduce complexity, and this is another area where Barry excels.
In the years I’ve known Barry he has always delivered frank assessments of situations, different solutions, with the added values of insight, humor, and improved outcomes. Barry is an individual that anyone would want on their team when looking for the best.”
Jeff Daemke, Vice President, Operations, PaperDirect, Inc. and Current USA, Inc.
“Barry is a mentor of mine and I have great respect for him. Barry sees ideas in a different light and is a great resource when looking for new and innovative ideas. He’s always learning and looking forward. With his strong communication, management and business skills, Barry is at home in any environment. You can depend on Barry to get the job done and get it done right.”
Richard Cartwright, Tech Support Expert and former direct report to Barry
“I truly enjoyed working with Barry. It was a pleasure exploring possibilities with him, then strategizing to make them happen. He has a wonderful ability to see and understand all dimensions of a project. Even when hardcore realities screamed “not possible” Barry understood what mattered; where it fit in; and how to make it work. And his dry sense of humor made it fun along the way.”
